
A RUNNING ADVENTURE LIKE NO OTHER!
Experience nature and wildlife in this exciting 30K trail run that meanders along Lake Apopka's shoreline!
WHEN: Sunday, January 22, 2023
START TIME: 7:30am
START LOCATION: Magnolia Park, 2929 Binion Road, Apopka, FL 32703
FINISH LOCATION: Green Mountain Scenic Overlook, 20700 County Road 455, Montverde, FL
COURSE: The course is a point to point, 30K, 18.6 mile run along the Lake Apopka Loop Trail. The run starts at Magnolia Park in Apopka and finishes at the Green Mountain Scenic Overlook in Montverde. The majority of the trail is packed lime rock or clay.
ELIGIBILITY: Open to individuals and two to four person relay teams. Minimum age to run as an individual is 16. The minimum age requirement for relay team segments is 8.
CUT-OFF TIME: The course closes at 1:30pm. All participants must be able maintain a 17:30 minute pacer per mile or faster in order to meet this cutoff time.

AMENITIES:
Each participant will receive a long sleeve mesh technical T-shirt (pictured below) and other goodies. All finishers will receive a cool custom finisher medal. Of course you'll receive all the other great amenities that you expect from a Sommer Sports event including a well marked and safe course, quality results, and great post event food.

AWARDS:
Custom awards will be presented to the top three overall individual finishers, top masters finisher, and the top three finishers in each five year age group, male and female. RELAY TEAMS - Awards will be presented to the top three relay teams in each of the following divisions: Male, Female and Mixed.
EVENT SUPPORT:
The Lake Apopka Scenic Trail 30K is a fully supported event. All aid stations are cup-free, disposable cups WILL NOT be provided. Runners should bring their own hydration system or drink bottles with them during the run. Aid stations are located at miles 4 (Pump House), 11.5 (North Shore Trailhead), and 15.5(Clay Island Trailhead). These stations will offer water & Gatorade, gels, bars, bananas & salty snacks. An additional water-only stop will be available at mile 7. Hydration and refueling stations will be located approximately every 2 miles along the course. Roving medical personnel will travel the course from start to finish.
SHUTTLE SERVICE:
Parking is available near the Green Mountain Scenic Overlook. The optional shuttle service will run on race morning from the parking area to the start line area at Magnolia Park. The fee for the shuttle service is $25 and can be paid online here. A free shuttle service will be available from the finish line area back to the parking lot after the race.
RELAY TEAMS:
In the relay team division, four-person teams will compete in either all-male, all-female, or mixed-team categories. The first runner will run 4.2 miles, the second runner 7.3 miles, the third runner 4.2 miles, and the fourth runner 2.9 miles. Please note that all distances are approximate. Relay team members are responsible for their own transportation to and from the relay exchange points with the exception of the first runner. All runners who complete the first 4 miles to the Pumphouse will be transported back to Magnolia Park via shuttle. Runner number 2 will also be transported to the Pumphouse via shuttle before the race starts.

Apopka Loop Trail Details
The Lake Apopka Loop Trail covers more than 20 miles, providing hiking and biking opportunities along and in close proximity to the Lake Apopka shoreline. Currently it is just a point to point trail, but is expected to circumnavigate Lake Apopka in the future.
Lake Apopka North Shore offers extraordinary opportunities to view Florida Wildlife. It is one of the top three birding areas for the entire state.
